The Ruffwear Polar Trex dog boots are designed for warmth, traction, and protection in winter conditions. Insulated upper softshell fabric creates breathable, weatherproof warmth in extreme cold and inclement weather. Ruffwear-designed Vibram® outsole provides optimum traction on frozen surfaces.

Closure system combines hook-and-loop with hardware, cinching around the narrowest part of the dog’s leg to provide a secure fit. Pullover stretch gaiter keeps snow out and improves retention by protecting the hook-and-loop ankle closure from the elements.

Just as you would with your gear, adjust fit and check tension of boots 15 minutes into your activity and throughout the adventure as needed.

Difficult to put on

The shoes seem well-built, but were just too difficult to put on. Maybe that makes them less likely to fall off, though. However, for the price, I decided to return them and try Musher's wax for this season.

Best dog boots, but wish they were better

These are the best dog boots I've found. I bought them last December 2017, so this is our second season using them. I live in North Dakota and don't have a yard, so take the dogs out three times a day. Depending on the temps, one or both dogs get the booties put on. What I love is that they are easy to put on; the mouth is big enough so their paws slide right in, the velcro and zippers are easy to close. Best of all, the tread on the bottom of the booty doesn't get chewed up by the concrete. The problem that I have is that they give my dogs sores on their dew claws. I have to wrap stretchy medical tape around their dew claws to help prevent the sores; sometimes, even that isn't enough. I also have to file their dew claws at an angle, so their dew claws don't dig into their skin and give them sores. I would highly recommend buying two different sizes: one set for front paws, which tend to be bigger, and one set for back paws. Having them fit for front paws and back paws gives you the best chance of having the back booties stay on.

Polar Trex

The Polar Trex have really helped Oli enjoy those winter days. Amazed to see his paws dry after a day in the backcountry. Watching him try them for the first time was worth it alone, now he is comfortable all day in the snow.

Excellent quality; but just didn't work out.

The quality of the shoes were excellent, but the design didn't work for my dog. They always seemed to snag her dew claw/pad, even though I did use the socks. I really wanted to love these! I have multiple ruffwear items though, and I definitely recommend the brand as a whole!

Didn’t work out for us

Overall dealing with Ruffwear was fine. Measured, ordered accordingly. Exchanged one pair for different size. Still didn’t work out for us. The cuff rides right under his dew claw. He is used to boots but these obviously bothered him. After adjusting several times, I returned every but one pair that wasn’t in perfect (resale) condition.
