There are no buckles or any other means of undoing straps. The result is a nightmare that feels like breaking my dogs bones to get him to fit it. What on earth were they thinking? How did such an objectively terrible design pass quality control? Hopefully returns are easy. I will not buy any more Ruffwear products from here on out.
Good harness with webbing straps that double back. The straps do take a moment to put on and take off however you can have confidence when lifting that they will not break. The pockets are nice to store a leash or bags. Good harness for professionals for the money.
Reasons I love it: - My dog had a way of contorting out of every other harness I tried. The third strap in the back prevents this. - He’s a **** Russell terrier (a rescue) and is reactive to large dogs. Where we hike we encounter lots of “he’s friendly” big, off-leash dogs. The handle makes it easy for me to pick him up. When one of these dogs comes running into his space. - It covers a lot of his body, so we don’t need an extra coat as often. -It’s quick and easy to put on and take off. - The straps are padded so he doesn’t get run burns like he did with other harnesses. He’s basically hairless underneath. Reason my dog likes this harness: - It makes me look like a badass. I notice the appreciative looks other dogs give me.
The overall experience is good, my dog seems to comfortable wearing it and it seem very sturdy. My one complaint is the strapping to secure the harness to my dog is takes some time to put on, the straps slide away when I attempt too tighten to my dogs body. This harness isn’t sometime you just put on and go. I feel that a clips would have been easier to use and less time consuming.
Hello Katherine, Thank you for your review! This style was designed to address the needs of avalanche dogs and their handlers, hence the all-metal hardware that is the most durable option for the rigors of the work they do and the extreme environment. My pup is a Service Dog in Training and she carries my medication. I’ve used countless “service” harnesses, they’re all terrible. My only issue with this harness is that at the moment, my pup is still in training and she can get pretty excited and wiggly, so putting it on can be quite the challenge, but that is truly my only issue with it, once it’s on, it’s the dream harness. When she gets older and more mature I expect that issue will disappear. Btw if you’re having trouble choosing, this is much lighter in weight and lower profile than the Single track pack.
