Share even more adventures with your canine sidekick with the Hitch Hiker™ Dog Backpack Carrier – a lightweight, technical dog carrier designed so dogs can hitch a ride when needed. The dual locking zippers create a wide opening for easy loading and unloading between trail time and backpack time. Once in the pack, the integrated harness keeps dogs secure and allows them to get comfortable and face forward to see the trail ahead. Cinch straps add extra security and keep dog close to your back when loaded. Air mesh side panels at the base boost air flow for temperature management.
Use the external grab handle to lift and shoulder the pack. Once on, the pack distributes weight evenly for the human carrying the load, with padded shoulder straps, breathable back panel, adjustable torso length, and a supportive hipbelt for all-day comfort. Pockets on the hip belt give quick access to essentials like pick-up bags, treats, and most phones. Stash a soft flask, packable bowl, or extra layer in the external zippered stretch pocket at the base of the pack.
Available in three sizes based off your dog’s girth measurement, and comfortably accommodates dogs up to 40 lbs. Hip belt fits waists 21-58" (53-149 cm).
Dual locking zippers open pack wide for easy loading and unloading of dog

Learn more about the Hitch Hiker™ from Kristen and Emma.
The Hitch Hiker™ works best for dogs who need occasional assistance during outings with their human. If your dog tires before you do, faces mobility challenges, or maybe even likes to watch the world from a higher vantage point, the Hitch Hiker™ provides a comfortable, secure solution.
We always recommend consulting with your veterinarian if you have specific questions about your dog's health conditions or whether a backpack style carrier is appropriate for their particular needs.
The Hitch Hiker™ comes in three sizes: XXS, XS, and S. Sizing is based on your dog's girth measurement (the circumference around the widest part of their ribcage). The human hip belt fits waists 21-58" (53-149 cm).
The Hitch Hiker™ comfortably accommodates dogs up to 40 lbs / 18 kg. This guidance is less about structural limitations and more about sizing and ensuring comfort for both you and your dog.
The Hitch Hiker™ has been designed with your dog's comfort in mind. We've consulted with veterinarians during the design process, and there were no concerns identified with the vertical positioning of dogs in this carrier. The integrated harness system provides proper support while allowing natural movement of your dog's front legs.
We intentionally designed the Hitch Hiker™ with your dog facing forward and in the same direction you're traveling to create a shared experience. This forward-facing orientation allows your dog to see where you're both going, and honors their natural curiosity about what’s ahead while keeping them secure and comfortable.
That said, every dog is unique – if you have specific concerns about your dog's spine, joints, or other health conditions, we recommend consulting with your veterinarian for personalized guidance.
Every dog has different comfort and endurance levels. We recommend starting with short 15-30 minute sessions to help your dog adjust, gradually increasing duration as they become more comfortable. As a general guideline, you can give your dog a break every 30-45 minutes, especially during longer outings. These breaks allow them to stretch, walk, relieve themselves, and drink water. Some dogs may need more frequent breaks, while others might be content in the pack for longer periods. Stay in tune with any signals your dog gives – restlessness, whining, or repositioning frequently may indicate they need a break. During breaks, completely remove your dog from the carrier, allowing them to move naturally. These pauses also give you the chance to readjust the carrier, check for any pressure points or discomfort, and rest your own muscles.
We've designed the Hitch Hiker™ with air mesh side panels at the base to provide airflow. This helps manage your dog's temperature during activity, reducing the risk of overheating. If hiking in warmer temperatures, it’s a good idea to take more frequent breaks from the pack to have a chance to stretch their legs and hydrate.

The backpack is going to be used for city travel. This past weekend we used it and Charlie was very comfortable during his trip!
I got this for my 23 pound Boston Terrier and it is perfect for her when she gets too pooped to party, easy and comfortable loading, with enough storage for water and snacks. Size it to yourself before loading up the dog.
When in Bend your dog is always welcome as a +1 for the afternoon meet ups - or walks along the river.
The small was perfect for our petite pug. Chest strap and waist belt make it very comfy for the longer walks/hikes.
I am 5'6" and smaller frame and the fit is perfect. Straps are super adjustable as is the shoulder height. But...my hubby is a big guy (6' wide shoulders) and the pack is just too small.
Really well designed with all the needed bells and whistles!!
So well made, a little hard to get the dog inside, but that's him, and our inexperience, not the product!
Once tucked into the pack, he is happy to stay inside it, on my back, for hours. Now to try it out on the trails!
This backpack carrier is perfect for my corgi and will be a useful addition to our hiking gear.
