Palisades™ Dog Backpack

multi-day backpacking pack

Color

Selected: Red Sumac

The Palisades Pack puts the deepest of backcountry within reach for you and your dog. Our highest-volume pack, it's designed for multi-day treks with roomy saddlebags that host a cross-load compression system for stable, comfortable gear carry. The saddlebags attach securely to a breathable harness chassis, and can be removed at camp to lighten the load for side-excursions.

Multiple pockets and an external daisy chain store and organize your dog's trekking necessities like a sleeping system, food, and even two collapsible hydration bladders that come with the pack.

It’s recommended that your dog carry no more than 25% of their body weight, including pack weight and its contents. If your dog is new to dog packs, start with a light load and work up to a heavier load as your dog gets used to wearing the pack.

What's New: The Palisades has a long history in the Ruffwear pack lineup, and this season's updates were inspired by customer feedback. More breathability and flexibility with a perforated, molded foam chassis; improved fade-resistance with new materials; updated "flopper stopper" system for easier use when stabilizing saddlebags, new stash pocket configuration.

Tough, roomy and features other packs don't have but should!

The pack stood up well to a Yukon bushwacking two day hike and crazy dog running around endlessly. I really appreciate the features including the easy (but not too easy) to remove bag from harness. The water bottles are a great feature of this pack many other brands dont have. I also noticed compared to other packs I have had the zippers close to the back of the pack. I hate when zippers are made on dog packs and the close to the front it means they catch on stuff and open risking losing things. The colour is bright and stands out which is great for pictures and alpine spotting. The adjustability is great as a med fits both my 65lb and 75 lb dogs. The padding at the tummy is awesome, again other packs I have don't have this feature.

    Best on the market

This is a bag thats worth the price tag. Its extremely well made, ample room for storage, and the compression straps are a game changer! The red sumac colour is bright and eye-catching, and the bag is built to be long lasting.

I have a 50lbs black lab, who was trained to be my epilepsy service dog. This pack is perfect for our backpacking and thru-hiking adventures, especially because the saddle bags are removable! I have room to sew on a 'Service Dog' and 'Epilepsy Alert' patch underneath the bags on the main harness, which means that this bag can be daul-use when we have to go into towns for resupply where she needs to be vested to gain public access. The medium was a perfect fit for us. Ample room for her UL sleeping bag, her food, pack towel, collapsible bowl, UL dog rain poncho and my emergency medications/ID. I would not recommend loading it up with more than 10% of your dogs bodyweight as a rule of thumb, the internet spouts 20-25%, but that is a max cary and only for very short distances. This pack has lots of room and is well balanced, but make use of the compression straps and keep it light!

Sadly, this bag isn't as waterproof as it could be, the zippers can let water in and the pack will get quite heavy when wet, so I'd recommend a dog poncho for when it rains to put over the pack and dog to keep it dry. That being said, With Groundbird off the market, this is the best pack available for serious back country adventuring.

    I highly recommend if you've got an…

    Impressive functionality

As many features and functions as you would have on a real human backpacking bag, well thought out, lightweight. Good even distribution of weight on the dogs back whereas other packs seems to have pressure points. Love the little water bladders included. The compatible harness is good for and didn’t restrict should movement. Would love to have a compatible rain cover/poncho/rain jacket attachment. Maybe this bag is waterproof, but our first time out with it we were in extremely wet conditions for prolonged period and the waterproofing didn’t hold up, contents of the pack got wet, we also couldn’t pour our dogs rain jack on while he was wearing it. Aside from that probably the best dog bag on the market and probably fine in regular rainy weather.

    Nice pack

I bought a medium and it fits our 50lb shepherd pitty mix well. We are still practicing with adding weight, but so far she likes her new pack.
