This is a bag thats worth the price tag. Its extremely well made, ample room for storage, and the compression straps are a game changer! The red sumac colour is bright and eye-catching, and the bag is built to be long lasting.
I have a 50lbs black lab, who was trained to be my epilepsy service dog. This pack is perfect for our backpacking and thru-hiking adventures, especially because the saddle bags are removable! I have room to sew on a 'Service Dog' and 'Epilepsy Alert' patch underneath the bags on the main harness, which means that this bag can be daul-use when we have to go into towns for resupply where she needs to be vested to gain public access. The medium was a perfect fit for us. Ample room for her UL sleeping bag, her food, pack towel, collapsible bowl, UL dog rain poncho and my emergency medications/ID. I would not recommend loading it up with more than 10% of your dogs bodyweight as a rule of thumb, the internet spouts 20-25%, but that is a max cary and only for very short distances. This pack has lots of room and is well balanced, but make use of the compression straps and keep it light!
Sadly, this bag isn't as waterproof as it could be, the zippers can let water in and the pack will get quite heavy when wet, so I'd recommend a dog poncho for when it rains to put over the pack and dog to keep it dry. That being said, With Groundbird off the market, this is the best pack available for serious back country adventuring.
