I’ve been a loyal Ruffwear customer for all 13 years of my dog Lucy’s life. Nearly all of her gear and apparel have come from this brand, and I’ve always appreciated the quality, durability, and thoughtful design.
That said, I’ve become increasingly frustrated with the changes to Ruffwear’s apparel sizing and fit. This is now the third outerwear purchase in a row where we’ve run into a “Goldilocks” situation — the small is too small, and the medium is far too big. This was true of both the Vert (which we kept) and the Sunshower (which we returned).
I was really excited to try the new Climate Changer vest, especially since Lucy’s shoulder mobility has become more limited with age and she’s been less comfortable in her older sweaters and fleeces. Despite the limited photos and lack of reviews, I followed the size chart and ordered a medium — and once again, it’s between sizes. The vest is cut very similarly to the Vert and Sunshower, though the photos online make it look like a snugger, warmer fit. In reality, it's much wider at both the neck & sides than the Vert (see photos).
I called customer service to request a free shipping code so I could try a small, which they kindly provided. Unfortunately, the small is so tight it won’t buckle under her chest, while the medium is loose enough that it shifts and slides when she walks — even the leg straps are too big and unusable, just like the Vert (see photos).
I’m disappointed to see this pattern with Ruffwear’s newer designs,…
