The Ruffwear Core Cooler™ is an add-on that cools dogs, adds additional support when lifting and assisting, and further stabilizes packs and harnesses. This three-layer chest panel uses evaporative cooling to efficiently pull heat from the dog’s core during warm temperatures and high intensity activities. To activate, wet the Core Cooler with water and wring out. The Core Cooler easily attaches to Ruffwear harnesses and packs using hook-and-loop sleeves:

Less durable than the Brush Guard, but holds water longer.

I actually like the fit, function, and design of both this, and the Brush Buard, so much, that I think it should be an integral part of the Webmaster harness, and not an add-on. The fabric on the Core Cooler is not nearly as durable, as on the Brush Guard. Both will hold water, for cooling purposes, but the Core Cooler, will hold more and last slightly longer. The Core Cooler also has a cooler color, and the fabric provides a better airflow. In 90° heat, the Core Cooler will dry out in about a half hour, and the Brush Guard, around half that. Being located on the chest area, it’s difficult to remoisten. The best way would be to, take a dip in a pond, stream etc.

We have one of these for both of our dogs and in general I am a big fan of it. One wears it underneath the approach pack, the other wears under the webmaster harness, and it works perfectly with each of these. Our Aussies are prone to overheating so having a cooling vest that you can combine with hiking wear is awesome! The ONE downside is that it only works for about 2, maybe 3 hours at best before needing to be rehydrated. I'm trying to work out a way to do this mid-hike but it's problematic because it needs to be either submerged or absolutely drenched in water. So while the benefits of having this on outweigh the lack of any cooling device at all, you still need to be careful of dogs overheating on longer hikes unless you can replenish it.

I have the web master harness and I use it to help give my 3 legged pup a boost up without jostling his stump where his leg was amputated and his pelvis. I added this core cooler for padding for when I lift him so the straps of the harness don't dig into him, and the fact it cools him down is a huge bonus. For any dog using a harness and is active, I definitely recommend this core cooler. It is easy to use, stays clean and fits perfectly to the harness so it is comfortable for the dog.
